For most sports fans, fall represents the most action-packed season of the calendar year. Consequently, it’s no different for Andrew Johnson. To the naked eye, the typical four-month period coincides with leaves changing tones.
However, for others, the period screams raucous college football crowds, jam-packed NFL Sundays, and baseball’s postseason.
In the Northeast, however, the fall culminates the long-spanning outdoor landscaping interval heading into winter months. While the November through February months usually serve as a break from edging, trimming, and mowing, the hiatus isn’t nearly as long-spanning as it should be.
Meet Andrew Johnson
Johnson, a Bucks County native, recently graduated from Penn State University in its supply chain management program. Moving forward, Johnson returned to the City of Brotherly Love to pursue a warehousing role with Amazon. As a result, he works 12-hour shifts on the production floor to satisfy daily customer demand.
When Johnson’s shifts culminate at 6 p.m. in the fall, there are only a select few items remaining on his daily docket. He likes to watch the Philadelphia Phillies’ playoff run and devotes Saturdays to his Nittany Lions.

His hilly, Eastern Pennsylvanian front yard does not need moving often after September, but this year is different. Johnson thought he could let it slide until the first snowfall. Yet, he received a scathing notice from his small neighborhood’s Home Owner’s Association soonafter.
Addressing The Notice
“Andrew Johnson, this is Doug Becker, President of Fox Meadow’s HOA. In accordance with the neighborhood’s maintenance policy, your yard’s condition is far from the standard we pride ourselves on within our neighborhood’s confines. Please fix the discrepancy within the next 48 hours, or you will reap the consequences of a $500 fine.”
Naturally, Johnson grew irate. In his estimation, fall is never meant for tedious outdoor brunt work. Rather, the period means for work during the day, followed by a period of hard-earned leisure during the off hours.
While walking his dog, however, Johnson noticed a small, innovative device utilized by a neighbor to trim his yard to personal specifications.
